When I was in kindergarten, my favorite activity was art. I loved to paint at the easel. In fact, I had my first art exhibit when I was 5 years old at the local library in town. Summers were spent at the Art Academy where I explored charcoal drawing, brush and ink painting and sculpture. It's no surprise then that I earned my Bachelor's in Fine Arts years later at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I've always been creating art in various media throughout my life. Creating custom graphics, photography and video are part of my daily existence now.
I started out as a painting major in college. Although I loved painting, this was a time to explore and try new things. So I ventured into printmaking, sculpture, photography, and design.
By profession, I'm a graphic designer. Out of a need for creative diversity, I also indulge in web design, photography and video.
I think it's important to be a generalist and have multiple creative outlets. A creative cross training if you will, to prevent burnout and keep things fresh. The different mediums also complements each other and helps me to grow and become better at my craft.
Growing up in Hawaii, inspiration is everywhere. The vibrant colors in nature, multi-cultural influences, and the beautiful weather and people are ingrained in my design style.
